"More Than Surviving

 the Market"

The first of a series -

"More Than Surviving the Market"

- where member photographers share their experiences

in dealing with market changes and the unexpected.

Rick Gayle has probably shot

everything but the kitchen sink!

Oops... You can cross that one off, too!

"Producing a Shoot"-- April 29th

Featuring veteran photographer and Phoenix Chapter member Rick Gayle and Phoenix stylist Kim Krejca.

"Producing a Shoot" -- (or 'why can't I do it all myself... but if I have to, what do I do now?')

Join us as Rick and Kim show how a creative production team collaborates, making the difference from an average shot to an eye grabbing image.

Come see how a self admitted 'storyteller' approaches his work.

What makes a good photo shoot?

What makes it better?

How do abstract concepts become well executed photographs? How do you evaluate the layout and bring a concept to life? What do you do when there isn't one?

Why shouldn't you do everything yourself? If you have to, what should you pay attention to?

How does a stylist work?

What can a stylist bring to a photo shoot? What should a photographer expect from a stylist? What does a stylist want to know from a photographer? If you're shooting food, why can't the chef do the photo styling? What the heck should you do when the client says "I can't afford a stylist"...?

About the presenters...

Rick's been called the hottest photographer in town!

During a nigh on 30 year career (that's how veterans describe it), Rick Gayle has seen and adapted to more market changes than most of us. He's also had to deal with a devastating fire that destroyed his studio just last year.

While many photographers have struggled with ever challenging market conditions, Rick has not only weathered those challenges, he's thrived.

How did he do it? How did he get his start? How has he adapted over the years? How has he dealt with his recent adversity? What does he see ahead?

After all these years, how does he continue to create images as fresh as the food he's asked to illustrate?

Kim Krejca -- Stylist with a capital "S"...

Kim has been on both sides of the creative fence. After graduating from the American Academy of Art in 1982, she worked as a designer and art director on Kraft, Kellogg's, 7-UP, Oldsmobile, Circle K, and other national accounts. In 2003, Kim decided to pursue her passion for cooking. She graduated from the Arizona Culinary Institute and worked as a caterer for Arcadia Farms and Chef Renee Ellis.

As a stylist, she brings a keen eye, a love of food, and over twenty years of advertising experience to the table.
